Welcome to Entropy Art

Welcome everyone. Entropy Art is a social networking website I have created to document the evolution of a long term art project about information. The idea behind this website is that everyone can become involved with the project and how it evolves over time. Eventually I will be adding special tools where you will be able to process your own images using the same software I will be developing, testing, and eventually using for the production of this project.

For now, you can create your own profile page, leave comments, upload photos ( either from your desktop or from flickr.com ) and share things like music and videos. This website is similar in nature to Myspace.com or Facebook.com, in that it is a social network, but the point of it all is to create a space for people who want to contribute ideas to a work in progress.

Thanks for joining!

The Cost of Doing Art

As many of you already know, this two year long art project of mine will be "set against the backdrop" (I love that phrase) of my progress towards an MFA at the Maryland Institute College of Art. The program was originally called Photography and Digital Imaging, but as you may have read in an earlier post, it is now going to be called Photographic and Electronic Media. The name is already growing on me. Photography sounds like snapping pictures, Photographic sounds like a medium. Digital Imagin… Continue

"Isn't that a....."

Stolen from Kendra's Flickr! This is one of those times where I was driving past something and I said, "hey, that looks like so and so..." I think I do that all the time, and I am usually right about 15% of the time! Well this time I was on the ball! - The statue that I have been staring at across from my apartment and sitting in front of Penn Station is in fact a sculpture by Jonat… Continue

"Things are gonna change, I can feel it!"

When I started this network-slash-blog, my intentions were initially to document my progress towards an MFA at the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, MD. Well, that hasn't changed, but what has changed is the name of my program! Last week I received an email from program director Timothy Druckrey explaining most notably the merger between the MFA program in Photography and Digital Imaging (my program) and the MA program in Digital Art. We are now collectively known as the MFA in P… Continue

Little Planets

Ok, I saw this on "Shoot The Blog," the blog on Photoshelter, which is quickly becoming one of my favorite photo blogs on the web. Anyway, this guy has created some really cool panoramic images projected to look like little planets. And, he has them all up on flickr.co… Continue

NodeBox

NodeBox looks very very cool. All Mac OSX, all Python, all day long. I haven't had much of a chance to try it out as of yet, but from their website, it looks very promising. I'll try and post a thicker review here in a few days. Right now I am deep into Joomla! and having fun with my Holga! -m

Photosynth Rocks

This is about a year old now, but still amazing. I just noticed it blogged over at Shoot The Blog, the Photoshelter blog (which is also great, by the way) and I thought it was pretty relevant. I'll let you discover why...… Continue

iPhone, Get Your iPhone....

I have really been enjoying taking snaps with my new iPhone these days. Would anyone care to do the math here? iPhone spatial resolution = 1200x1600 (Interpolated from what is probably a standard Bayer pattern) iPhone bit depth = 8 bits per channel, so 24 bits How many possible images can an iPhone make? So fa… Continue

"Shoot The Blog" Makes a Good Point

"Shoot The Blog," a blog written by an employee over at Photoshelter is always a good read. I have their RSS feed bookmarked and they tend to update nearly every day or more. Today they posted some interesting imagery (again with the alliteration) and I just wanted to make note of it here. Check it out on your own at Shoot The Blog

Apple Profiles Algorithmic Artist Jean-Pierre Hébert

Apple has one of their very cool profiles up on their Science page about "Algorithmic Artist" Jean-Pierre Hébert. It's mostly too cool to describe so go read all about it here. Maybe someday....
